First off hand rankings are the same, whether playing online or in person at a casino. You need to know the orders of the cards, which are 2 is the lowest and the Ace can usually be used as both the lowest and highest ranked card. The suits of the cards absolutely do not affect the rankings of the hands. The final hands in poker are based on the rank of only five cards.
If you do not know the interpretations of the different poker hand rankings, now is the time to familiarize yourself with them, along with the value of each rank. The different kinds of five-card poker hands used are as follows, described from weakest (or lowest) to the highest: One Pair, Two pair, Three of a kind, Straight, Flush, Full house, Four of a kind, Straight flush and Royal flush.
One pair is two cards with the same value. If two players have one pair in their hands of the same value, they must then compare the next highest card (the kicker) in their hands to determine the winner. If their kickers are of equal value, then the next highest card must be compared.
Two pair means the players hand contains two different pairs of cards. If two players both have two pair in their hands, and the value of the top pairs are of equal value, the lower pairs are compared, and the highest valued is the winning hand. If by chance, both of the pairs are the same, the kickers are compared (the player with the highest kicker is the winner).
Three of a kind simply means, that a player has three cards of the same numerical rank, in their hand. If two or more players have an equal valued three of a kind in their hand. Then the player with the highest kicker in their hand, is considered the winner.
A straight is a hand that has five cards in sequential order, that are of different suits.
A flush is a poker hand that contains five cards of the same suit, in any non-sequential order. If two players both have flushes, then they must compare their top cards to determine a winner. The player with the highest ranked card wins. If the highest cards are equal, then they must compare their second highest cards, and the highest is considered the winner.
A Full House is a poker hand that has three of a kind, as well as another pair. If two players have full houses where the three of a kinds are equal rank, the hand with the highest ranked pair is considered the winner.
Four of a kind consists of four cards of the same numerical rank, and any other card.
A Straight Flush consists of five cards all of the same suit in sequential order
A Royal Flush consists of five cards from ten to Ace of the same suit. The suits are all equal, so this does not play a part in the rank of a royal flush.
If a hand does not fit into the above rankings, it is simply known as a high-card hand. When comparing hands, the player with the highest card wins. If two players have equally ranked high cards, then they should compare their second highest card. If those are equal, then they should compare the cards on down the line, until the best highest card is declared the winner.
